Christmas 2021

Christmas is almost here.  In some ways it seems almost like it snuck up on us this year.  It’s only a few days away and there are still so many eleventh-hour details to finish. Everywhere you look, there are advertisements for goodies and stores selling toys and treats and the latest bling.  This past weekend though, we were reminded that Christmas is so much more than colorful lights, flamboyant gifts, and rich holiday foods.

This past Sunday, after the service, our little church hosted a delicious Christmas luncheon for its members and friends, complete with ham and frybread. There were gifts for the children under a beautifully decorated tree. It really was a foretaste of Heaven as believers of all ages and from very different backgrounds were able to worship together then sit down to share a great meal together. It was such a joy! What an awesome God we serve.

And Susan and I received an extra special gift!  In our ministry on different reservations, we have always thought that the children and teenagers should be able to pray in their own languages, so we’ve always made a point of learning, then teaching, the Doxology ((a short hymn or prayer of praise to God) in their respective language.  When we got to San Carlos, we tried to find – without luck – the Doxology in Apache.
